The Smallest Artefact (community collaborative project)

2016
watercolour paintings on watercolour paper

The works in this exhibition of watercolour paintings were created during a three-session program in July entitled "Watercolour for Beginners: The Smallest Artefact," held at Branscombe House in Steveston through the Branscombe House artist-in-residence program and in collaboration with the City of Richmond artefact collection.

Weppler led free classes for 30 participants with ages ranging from 8 years to 74 years. While learning the basics of watercolour painting, students looked at objects on loan from the artefact collection for subject matter. Each student selected an artefact using the collection's extensive, 2000+ image online library.

Artefacts were then delivered to Branscombe House to be closely observed and depicted. Special thanks to Rebecca Forrest, Curator of Collections/Museum and Heritage Services for her support and enthusiasm.
